Terms of use
These terms apply from the effective date shown in the app. They replace any earlier version. They are a translation of the French text, which prevails in case of discrepancy.
1. Who we are, and what this text covers
Weejo is a mobile app that lets you propose outings near you, join other people's, talk about them in a group and stay in touch with the people you meet. You sign up for an activity, not for a conversation.
Weejo is published by Weejo Labs, a French simplified joint-stock company (SAS) with a share capital of 200 euros, whose registered office is at 6 rue Général Jouan à Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, registered with the Trade and Companies Register of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin under number 130 536 337 ("Weejo Labs" or "we"). You can write to us at contact@weejo.app.
These terms of use (the "Terms") form the contract between you and Weejo Labs for the use of the Weejo app, the services that make it work and the weejo.app website (together, the "Service"). They are completed by three texts that form an integral part of them:
- the Community Rules, which say what you may and may not do on Weejo;
- the Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with your data;
- the Cookie Policy, which describes what the app stores on your device.
By creating an account you accept these Terms and the Community Rules, and you acknowledge having read the Privacy Policy. If you disagree with any of these texts, do not create an account, or delete the one you have.
2. Definitions
- Member: any person holding a Weejo account.
- Outing: an activity proposed by a member at a given date and place, which other members may ask to join. An outing is public (visible to members nearby) or private (reachable only with an invite code).
- Organiser: the member who creates an outing, together with the co-organisers they appoint.
- Event: an outing published by a verified professional account, or relayed by Weejo from an open-data source.
- Professional account: the account of an organisation (association, venue, company, public body) whose existence we have verified.
- Discussion: the group conversation attached to an outing or, where the feature is offered, to a matchmaking group.
- Matchmaking: the feature by which Weejo offers several members who are free at the same times and close to one another to open a discussion and organise an outing.
- Content: everything a member publishes on the Service: profile, photos, outings, messages, polls, reactions, badges, reports and feedback.
3. Access requirements
Age. Weejo is for people aged 16 or over. You declare your date of birth when you sign up. A false declaration leads to the deletion of the account. Matchmaking is for adult members only (18 or over), because it is the one feature where Weejo itself chooses who it introduces to whom.
One account per person. Your account is personal. You may not lend, sell or transfer it. An organisation wishing to publish events does so from a professional account, never from an individual's account.
Sign-in. You sign in with a Google or Apple account. Weejo holds no password: protecting access to your Google or Apple account and to your phone is your responsibility. Tell us without delay at contact@weejo.app if you think someone is using your account.
Free of charge. The Service is provided free of charge. Internet connection costs and the required equipment remain yours. Weejo sells nothing: no ticket, no seat, no subscription. Ticketing or booking links shown on some events lead to third-party services that do not depend on us.
Territory. The Service is designed for metropolitan France, where the places and towns it knows are located. It may be used elsewhere, but we do not guarantee that it is suited to it.
4. Your account
- Your information must be accurate and kept up to date: display name, age, town. Your profile photo must show you, not another person.
- Your username is unique. It must not impersonate a person, a brand or an organisation.
- Your phone number is optional. If provided, it is never shown to other members and is not verified.
- Your e-mail address comes to us from your Google or Apple account. We show it to nobody and do not use it to send you commercial messages.
- A random installation identifier is associated with the app on your device. It serves only to detect multiple accounts and attempts to get around a suspension. It is neither an advertising identifier nor a serial number.
- You are responsible for what is done from your account, including by someone to whom you gave access to your phone.
5. The Service
5.1 Outings
You can create an outing by giving at least a category, a date, a place and a title. You choose whether it is public or private, the number of seats, an optional age range, and whether you want to approve each request to join. You can appoint co-organisers, who have the same powers over the outing as you.
The organiser is solely responsible for their outing: for the activity being real, for the honesty of its description, for its legality, for any authorisations needed, and for what happens there. Weejo is neither the organiser, nor an intermediary, nor a party to anything between participants. A cancelled or moved outing notifies the people signed up.
An invite code gives access to a private outing to anyone holding it. Share it only with the people you want to come. Repeated code attempts are limited and may lead to a suspension.
5.2 The group discussion
Each outing has a discussion reserved for the people admitted. You can write in it, open polls (the organiser creates them; everyone may add an answer when the organiser allows it) and react to a message with one of the marks offered. A message you delete disappears for everyone; its place stays marked "message deleted". The organiser may make the discussion read-only or remove a participant. The organisers of an event may write to the people signed up without those people being able to reply other than with a reaction.
5.3 Friends, follows and badges
You can send a friend request to someone you met on Weejo, follow an organisation, and give a member you went out with one or more badges chosen from a closed, positive-only list (at most three per person). A profile shows how many people gave each badge, never their names; only the person receiving a badge is told who gave it. You can block a member: you then stop seeing each other in the app, and the blocked person is not told.
5.4 Events and professional accounts
A verified organisation publishes events, which appear with a verification badge and the contact details it chooses to make public. The prices, ticketing and booking links it gives are information it provides; they bind the organisation alone, and purchases or bookings are made outside Weejo, on the services it has chosen.
Weejo also relays events published as open data by public tourism bodies. These events are marked as relayed and show their source and the date of their last update. Weejo does not organise them, sells nothing for them and cannot guarantee their accuracy: the information is reproduced as the source publishes it, and the source prevails.
5.5 Matchmaking
Where this feature is offered, you can tell Weejo the days and times you are free, your preferences (outing categories, age range, gender mix) and the distance you accept. When enough compatible members have done the same, Weejo offers each of them to open a shared discussion. Nobody is added to a group without having said yes, declining costs nothing, and you can withdraw a yes as long as the group has not formed. The group then organises itself: it sets the time and creates the outing. Weejo suggests a public meeting point (a square, a park, a station) and never a business. A group that has organised nothing by the day in question is deleted together with its discussion.
Matchmaking relies on automated processing described in the Privacy Policy. It guarantees neither that a proposal will be made to you, nor that a group will form, nor the quality of the encounters.
5.6 Notifications
Weejo sends notifications to your device about what concerns you: requests to join, changes to an outing, messages, polls, friends, followed organisations, decisions about your account, organisers' announcements, badges, outings nearby and matchmaking. Each category can be switched off in the app's settings, and all of them in your phone's settings.
5.7 Your location
The app asks permission to access your location only while you are using it, never in the background, in order to find outings near you. You may refuse: the app then uses the town on your profile. Sharing your position during an outing sends a link to a single point, at the moment you decide, through your phone's share feature; Weejo does not record that point.
5.8 Changes to the Service
We may develop the Service and add, change or remove features. The removal of an important feature is announced in the app with reasonable notice, except in an emergency related to security or a legal obligation. The Service may be interrupted for maintenance.
6. Your content
You remain the owner of what you publish. You grant Weejo Labs a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence, for as long as the content is online, limited to what is needed to run the Service: hosting and storing it, adapting it technically (resizing a photo, generating a preview), reproducing it and showing it to the members it is meant for, including as a notification. A copy of content that has been reported or picked up by our moderation tools may be kept for moderation and evidence purposes, even if you delete it.
You warrant that you have the right to publish what you publish. A photo showing another person requires their consent. Content protected by copyright or a trademark requires its owner's permission.
Who sees what. Your profile is visible to signed-in members, not to the open web. It shows your age, never your date of birth; never your phone, your e-mail or your gender. A public outing and its list of participants are visible to members. A private outing is visible to the people who have its code. A discussion is visible to the people admitted to the outing.
Prohibited content. The Community Rules detail what has no place on Weejo. In any case, all unlawful content is prohibited: incitement to hatred, violence or discrimination, harassment, threats, glorification of crimes, sexual content, content involving minors inappropriately, breach of another person's privacy or image rights, counterfeiting, hidden advertising, fraud, collection of personal data, and any outing proposing a dangerous or illegal activity.
Our role. Weejo Labs hosts content published by its members, within the meaning of Article 6 of French Law No. 2004-575 of 21 June 2004 on confidence in the digital economy and of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 on digital services. We have no general obligation to monitor what is published. We promptly remove any manifestly unlawful content notified to us and take the measures described in Article 7.
7. Moderation
7.1 Reporting
You can report a profile, an outing or a message from the app, choosing a reason (misleading information, hidden advertising, dangerous activity, unlawful content, harassment, inappropriate content, fake profile, scam or spam, other) and adding an explanation. You can also write to us at contact@weejo.app. For us to handle a notice received by e-mail, state: the content concerned and where it is, why you consider it unlawful, your name and an address for our reply (except for content relating to sexual offences against minors, where you may remain anonymous), and confirmation that your report is made in good faith.
A report is anonymous towards the person reported, who will never know who reported them. You are told when your report has been reviewed. Manifestly unfounded and repeated reports are themselves a breach of these Terms.
7.2 How we moderate
- A word list is automatically compared with what members write (messages, outings, poll answers). It never blocks or deletes anything by itself: it draws the attention of a person on our team, who reads and decides.
- Every decision is taken by a person. No sanction is automatic.
- Context is limited. To judge a reported or flagged message, the person moderating sees the few messages before and after it in the discussion. They have no way of viewing a member's message history outside a report or an alert.
- Every decision is recorded in an internal journal, with its author and date, and can be reversed by the same route.
7.3 Possible measures
Depending on seriousness and repetition: removal of content; cancellation of an outing; a reminder of the rules, which tells you what it is about and warns you that the next one will lead to a suspension; a suspension, for a fixed period or without a set end, during which the app is inaccessible; deletion of the account; refusal or withdrawal of a professional account's verification. A serious breach (threats, sexual content involving minors, fraud, endangerment) may lead directly to deletion of the account and to a report to the authorities.
7.4 Reasons and appeal
Any measure concerning you is notified to you in the app with its reason, except where the law forbids us or where it concerns manifestly unlawful content amounting to an offence. You may contest a decision within six months by writing to contact@weejo.app, stating the decision concerned and your arguments. Your appeal is reviewed by a person who did not take the initial decision where our organisation allows it, and we give you a reasoned reply.
7.5 Authorities
We answer requests from the competent judicial and administrative authorities under the conditions provided by law, and we may on our own initiative report serious facts brought to our attention.
8. Responsibilities
Meetings happen in real life. Weejo does not verify the identity of individual members: what a profile says about a person is what that person says. Only professional organisations are verified, on documents. You take part in an outing at your own risk. We recommend choosing a public place for a first meeting, telling someone you trust, keeping a way to get home by yourself and not giving out your address. In an emergency, call the emergency services (112). Weejo cannot intervene on the spot.
The organiser answers for their outing, under the conditions of Article 5.1. Weejo Labs is not liable for the cancellation of an outing, the absence of participants, a member's behaviour or any harm occurring during an outing.
Professional or relayed events are described by third parties. A purchase or booking made on an outside service creates a contract between you and that service, to which Weejo Labs is not a party.
Availability. The Service is provided as is and on a best-efforts basis. We guarantee neither uninterrupted operation nor suitability for a particular need, and we do not guarantee that an outing, participants or a matchmaking proposal will be found for you.
Links. The Service contains links to third-party sites and services (ticketing, booking, maps, organisations' websites). We do not control their content and are not responsible for it.
Limits. Weejo Labs' liability is limited to direct, proven damage resulting from a breach of these Terms on its part. Nothing in this text excludes or limits our liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, for personal injury, or where the law does not allow it, nor the statutory guarantees you enjoy as a consumer under Articles L. 224-25-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code on digital content and services.
Force majeure. Neither party is liable for a failure due to an event of force majeure within the meaning of Article 1218 of the French Civil Code.
9. Professional accounts
A professional account is reserved for an organisation carrying on a declared activity. To be verified, the organisation provides its legal name, its SIREN or SIRET number, its public contact details, and two documents: proof of existence (Kbis extract, prefecture registration receipt or articles of association) and an identity document of its director. These documents serve only for verification. They are stored separately, encrypted, viewable by our team alone, and deleted thirty days after our decision, or ninety days after the last upload if the file is never submitted. Our decision reaches you in the app with, in case of refusal, its reason.
The verified organisation undertakes to publish accurate information, to present itself under its own name only, to comply with the regulations applicable to its activity and its own ticketing, and not to use Weejo for any direct sale or data collection. Any commercial communication on Weejo is made from a professional account identified as such; hidden advertising from an individual's account is prohibited. We may withdraw verification from an organisation that does not honour these undertakings or whose situation has changed.
10. Intellectual property
The app, its code, its name, its logo, its texts, its illustrations and its visual identity belong to Weejo Labs or to those who licensed their use to it. These Terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app within the limits set out here. The following are prohibited, except where the law expressly allows you: copying, modifying, decompiling or reverse-engineering the app; extracting or re-using a substantial part of its content or database; using robots, scripts or automated means to access it; any interference with its security measures.
Relayed events come from datasets published under the Licence Ouverte 2.0 (Etalab). The places and towns the app knows come from public data and from OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the ODbL licence. The legal notice gives the details.
11. Suspension and end of the account
By you. You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings, or by writing to us at contact@weejo.app from your account's e-mail address. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. Your future outings are cancelled and their participants told, your upcoming participations are released, your profile, photos, relationships and preferences are erased. Your messages remain in the discussions, with nothing leading back to you. The Privacy Policy details what is erased and what is kept.
By us. We may suspend or delete an account in the cases provided in Article 7, in case of a false declaration at sign-up, where the law requires it, or where an account has had no sign-in for three years, after a warning by notification. We may end the Service as a whole with at least two months' notice announced in the app.
Circumvention. Creating a new account to escape a suspension or deletion is a breach of these Terms and leads to the deletion of the new account.
12. Changes to the Terms
We may change these Terms, in particular to follow developments in the Service or the law. Each new version bears a number and an effective date, and will be presented to you in the app. You will have to accept it to keep using Weejo; otherwise you may delete your account. The version in force can always be read in the app.
13. Consumer law
The Service is free of charge, with no financial consideration. It is provided in exchange for personal data within the meaning of Article L. 224-25-2 of the French Consumer Code, which gives you the statutory guarantees provided for digital content and services.
Withdrawal. You have fourteen days from the creation of your account to withdraw without giving a reason, by deleting your account in the app or by writing to us at contact@weejo.app. As the Service starts immediately at your request, withdrawal takes the form of deleting the account. It is free of charge and nothing is owed to you, since nothing was paid.
14. General provisions
- Governing law. These Terms are governed by French law. If you live in another Member State of the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of your national law.
- Jurisdiction. In case of dispute, you may bring proceedings either before one of the courts having territorial jurisdiction under the French Code of Civil Procedure, or before the court of the place where you lived when the contract was concluded or the harmful event occurred.
- Language. These Terms are written in French. Their translation is provided for your convenience; in case of discrepancy, the French version prevails.
- Evidence. Acceptances of these Terms, time-stamped and tied to a version, are kept by our systems and constitute evidence between us.
- Severability. If a clause were held void, the others would remain applicable.
- No waiver. Not relying on a clause at a given time does not amount to waiving the right to rely on it later.
- Assignment. Weejo Labs may transfer this contract to a company succeeding it in operating the Service, informing you in the app, without reducing your rights.
